Case studies

Real schools. Real numbers.

Three sample schools that piloted Students of Timor in the 2025-2026 academic year. Names are placeholders — real schools redacted at their request.

Escola Sample Dili — primary (EBC)

A 420-student urban primary school in Dili. Previously used a mix of paper registers and a WhatsApp group for parent communication.

What changed

Attendance is now taken on the Teacher app in under 30 seconds per class. Parents get a push notification the moment their child checks in. The school replaced three spreadsheets and a paper register with one dashboard the headmaster opens every morning.

The numbers

Daily attendance reporting compliance jumped from roughly 60% (paper registers, with gaps) to 98% inside the first month. Parent push-notification opt-in reached 84%. Teacher onboarding took one afternoon — no IT support required.

Escola Sample Baucau — secondary (ESG)

A 680-student secondary school in Baucau with a complex multi-teacher timetable. Previously printed exam timetables that clashed every term.

What changed

Timetables now live in one place. Teachers see only their own slots, students see only their classes, and clashes are flagged in red as the headmaster builds. Parent messaging replaced the per-class WhatsApp groups, so identities stay inside the school.

The numbers

Term-start admin time fell from roughly two weeks of timetable wrangling to three afternoons. The school logged zero exam-room clashes in the first term — down from seven in the previous term. Parent reply-rate to teacher messages was 71% inside 24 hours.

Escola Sample Ermera — private + boarding

A 230-student private school in Ermera district with a small boarding programme. Previously used Eskooly with patchy Tetum support and a paper fees ledger.

What changed

Every student got a $5 keycard. Attendance, library loans and the cafeteria all run off the same tap. Parents pay fees with SOTcoin from the Parent app — no more cash trips to the office. The fees ledger is automatic; the bursar reads a dashboard, not a notebook.

The numbers

Fees-collection cycle time dropped from an average of 19 days to 4 days. Cafeteria food waste fell about 30% once pre-orders launched. Library overdues fell by half once parents started getting due-date reminders in their pocket.
